I want to add a server 2012 rds or ts server to my existing 2008 domain

 

Can I do this without make a dc and affecting the domain

Yes, you should be able to join the Server 2012 machine to your existing Server 2008 domain. You'll need to install Remote Desktop Services on the Server 2012 machine, and you'll need a Server 2012 Remote Desktop Licensing server somewhere - that could be the same Server 2012 machine if you don't want to set another one up. I've been trying recently to get a proper load-balanced Server 2012 R2 RDS setup going and failing, and in trying to set that up I came accross the Guacamole RDP client:

This is a server that presents RDP connections as HTML5-based web pages, so you just need a web browser to connect to an RDS server. If I understand the documentation properly, it will handle load balancing between RDS servers and allow you to use Remote Apps, so I'm aiming to have a system where a user can simply click ona file in a web browser and a tab opens up to edit that file via a remote server.
