We are starting to get a problem with students bypassing our iBoss internet filter using Hotspot Shield and there are probably others we don't know about.

 

Internet, Filter and firewall all provided by the lovely folks at Region 18, and not in our direct control.

 

Best ways that we can monitor it / prevent it?

 

I think we can restrict it on PCs with a group policy to prevent exe from running, but we have a pretty open wifi (most kids know the wifi password and not prevented). So most of the kids are running it on Android and iOS. Filter is set to block Web Proxies / VPNs but it doesn't seem to (were chasing it up with region 18).

I've seen this issue before.

I'd advise a more restrictive firewall policy. Only have the ports you need open, everything else should be closed.
