caffrey Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Sorry to fire up another thread but I'm looking for a definative list for using sims on iPads for things like registration - just a simple list with pros and cons. I've been reading about and digging through old threads and up to now as far as I know there's these options :- SIMS SLG pros cons Cost, expertise , sharepoint and more work for me. (unskilled with sharepoint) Brocom ? TASC ? Microsoft RDP / RemoteApp Cons Is the sims interface easy to use doing this ? Setting up ?
tombry Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 For RDP - if you use Microsoft's RDP client on Ipad, you can use cursor mode, which makes moving around a lot easier. Pros - Not only do you get SIMS access, but if you set the RDP up their school computer, they have access to all of their stuff (my deputy head rarely uses her laptop now for most of her tasks in school) Cons - no access from outside the school, as there is no VPN client (for us) that runs on the ipad.
winng Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Using a cloud-based solution like Bromcom's MIS will provide you with full functionality in a browser. Therefore, in addition to Registers, you can do everything else too.
zag Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 The best solution is Groupcall Emerge currently. TASC insight also works well with an Ipad but we only use it for the Parent Side of things 1

TASC insight also works well with an Ipad but we only use it for the Parent Side of things Sorry @zag but I have to disagree. Despite me being instrumental in purchasing Emerge for my last two schools, there are limitations on what it can do and there were often delays in synchronising the data between lesson changes, for example. Having access to a MIS via a browser gives you full functionality :0

Ours is instant syncronization as far as I know, have you checked your setup with groupcall? I know we had problems with the latest version until they logged in and sorted out the server side of things. Works perfectly now.
Quackers Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 The full sims app via Remote Desktop using microsofts official rdp app in cursor mode we find the best experience.
caffrey Posted April 29, 2014 Author Posted April 29, 2014 Are you all using Remoteapp or full remote desktop ? I had a play with this yesterday on server 2012r2 VM and ran into a few issues. Is there a guide anywhere for setup ? I understand that I would also need TS licencing also so this is another little cost.
