Google Apps Drive file types

As our new vle uses GA and drive, I was wondering if the there is a way for the admin to restrict what file types are uploaded to google drive? I.e block executables/vbs/msi etc? Although our network policies prevent those types of files being run on the network I can guarantee thats what will be tried over and over again!

 

I've had a search and so far its seems any file type can be uploaded, and you can't restrict it at all for your domain, which is a bit of a pain.

Could you restrict the files as they pass through your filter/firewall on the way to and from G Drive? Stop kids uploading while at school, and downloading if uploaded at home, but wouldn't stop sharing etc.

Hmm I never thought of doing that at the firewall end (its TMG2010) - is anyone else who uses GApps actually doing anything to block certain file types?

I manage the Google Apps instance for the community over at Mozilla.

Very unlikely they have such a thing. Google Drive is designed to be flexible to the users, sadly taking away a lot from the admins.

 

Just banning *.exe in your proxy is probably the best idea. Not many kids are smart enough to figure out that you can just remove the extension, download, and add it back (though, you might have that covered already!)

Yeah, I think a combination of Proxy blocking exe's and software restriction policies blocking executables from anywhere other than the Program Files folder or know network drive is our best policy! Doesn't stop them uploading and sharing dodgy content though - something I couldn't get SMT to take seriously!

Realsmart, which is basically G-Apps with a front end interface!
