abillybob Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 BBC News - $299 3D printer achieves Kickstarter goal in minutes Meh! Not really bit to small to do any serious 3D printing I'm still going to wait!
pete Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 It does look pretty slick, especially at that price and the threaded rod drive (I think) at four corners should ensure it's accurate. I'd want the option for metal gears on the stepper motor shaft though - they were either printed or nylon gears in the video. The print area is a bit small, however.
creese Posted April 9, 2014 Author Posted April 9, 2014 I could think of quite a few uses for it, but agree it is a bit small.
pcstru Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 Looks good to me and the price is sweet. Print area on almost any 3d printer is quite small - typically 200mm. My 'problem' with these kind of machines is what happens when something goes wrong? 3d printing tends to be a bit finickity, so when instead of a nice vase, your print looks like a blob of goo, how easy will it be for someone who bought it as a consumer item (it just works) to sort it out.
