localzuk Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 Have you told the RDS server to use that RDS Licensing server?
kevin_lane Posted April 2, 2014 Author Posted April 2, 2014 I think so yea all of the roles are all on 1 server and I have a green tick in my RD Licensing manager
localzuk Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 That looks fine. However, the RDS Server itself has a section where you tell it which Licensing server to use. Open Remote Desktop Session Host Configuration. On that first page, there should be a section "Licensing". Under that, you should have Per User and Specified listed. Double click the Remote Desktop license servers item, and there details should be in there. 1
zag Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 Wow 1,500 CAL's!! that must have cost a fortune! I just paid £1,300 for 120 of them...
kevin_lane Posted April 3, 2014 Author Posted April 3, 2014 yea that's right is selected as per user do I need to tell the server that i'm connecting to about the RDs Licencing server ?
localzuk Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 yea that's right is selected as per user do I need to tell the server that i'm connecting to about the RDs Licencing server ? In that bit I mentioned, you need to add the licensing server address.
kevin_lane Posted April 3, 2014 Author Posted April 3, 2014 @localzuk yea that's right it says that in the RD Session Host Config I've opened it and it tells me the server name and also tells me the number if licenses available for and the licensing mode is per user further down under remote desktop services license server information it give me the name of the of the server the credentials which is available and the connectivity which is available when I click on the start RD Licensing manager on the right hand side I have a the name of the server which has a green tick and the activation status is activated, the scope is domain and the configuration is ok the type of licence is Windows Server 2008 or Windows 2008R2: installed TS or RDS per user CALS any thing else I should check for ?
kevin_lane Posted April 3, 2014 Author Posted April 3, 2014 think we are ok I've had up to 7 people on
zag Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 Yes it wont give you much indication of the licenses that are in use. But if you have pointed it to the license server then it should be fine for the users to log on.
kevin_lane Posted April 4, 2014 Author Posted April 4, 2014 @zag ok I've now setup a staff server for staff to connect to yesterday I was able to connect to the broker server which was the one that had all the roles on and I was able to connect more than 2 users on now that I have setup this new server I've just tired to remote on to the server to test again and I get the same issue I did yesterday and that was not allowed more than 2 users do I need to add a role and point it to the licencing server ?
localzuk Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 Every RDS Server in the farm needs pointing at the licensing server, per the earlier method.
kevin_lane Posted April 4, 2014 Author Posted April 4, 2014 right ok I just thought that the broker would know this as I'm using it to connecting to the server
