Hi,

 

I have an XP PC which has the Junior Librarian 3 software. I need to migrate everything over to a new Windows 7 PC. Does anyone know how this could be done? I need to make sure that all the pupil data and book database is transferred over as well.

I am also facing that task, we store the database file on a server share, it is just a case of is updated software needed and will it be compatible. Will be curious to hear how it goes.

Yes - if you have the data networked already, all you need to do is install JL and update the local.ini file to point to the correct DB (which is in JL program files).

It's real easy!

I have done it when updating a school server from 2003 to 2008R2

 

EDIT: If you don't have the DB networked, then install JL on the new workstation and copy over the DATA folder + the Backup folder from the XP program file folder. In the data folder, you should see a MS Access type DB, that is where your library data sits.

Hi Thanks for your reply.

 

I am sure that the data is on the local PC. So all I need to do is install the JL software on the Win 7 PC and take the folders (data and backup folders) from the old XP PC and replace the one's created on Win 7 PC.

 

If I wanted to take the network option what do I do?

For the network option you just put the database file on a network share and I believe there is an ini config file where you set the path.

From memory, I just used the JL3 backup routine. Installed JL3 on the new machine and restored the backup.

I was getting the Windows 7 PC ready to install Junior Librarian 3, but realised I do not have the software on the server. Is there anywhere I can get the software from? The version that is installed on the XP PC is version 3.2.2.27. I have checked the C Drive of the XP PC and there are a few exe files (setup, junior3, enquiry, circulate etc) I tried some of them but no luck. I know there is a new version called library.net but is there anywhere I can get the version I'm using???
