Watchguard XTM Authentication / reports

Is anyone using Watchguard XTM and Web Blocker(Websense Cloud)?

 

Anyone experiencing the authentication page appearing for users? It is the bane of my life!!

 

Also anyone experiencing issues with getting user reports out of it? i.e. it takes forever and you also cant get a detailed URL report of a user

 

Not finding much that does work with Watchguard nowadays!

Ah sadly Watchguard systems are terrible for schools. Ours is the bane of my life and is going out the window as soon as I can get some budget for something else. The SSO system they implement is truly awful. I'd look into the logs of the SSO client on affected machines, this is usually the first place to start.

Used it, can be a bit oversensitive on stuff, we used it in healthcare, didn't always detect sites right and when sites were blocked took some working out why in places.

 

I don't think I would use it for filtering again, would stick a proxy in and do it that way I think.

We are using an XTM-850 with around 500 concurrent devices along with in-house hosting and its working with no problems for SSO or filtering.

 

We use the watchguard servers to offload a bit. Maybe newer firmware will fix your issues?

It's only the webblocker and spamblocker components of the Watchguard that are lacking. They make an excellent firewall and VPN. The SSO is sadly lacking and we replaced this as our web filter almost 4 years ago with iBoss. We still use the Watchguard as a firewall and the VPN works great on Mac, Windows, and iOS. You will struggle to get webblocker working well and to your liking though I'm afraid.

 

On a side note - because the iBoss is so good and they now have a full-featured UTM appliance now, we are considering moving everything to the iBoss when we refresh our firewall/web filter solution. There really is no better web filter out there for the money than the iBoss. No other filter I've seen comes close.
