BKGarry Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 (edited) Hello All, Our DT department have come up with a plan to breathe some new life into our OLD 3D printer, we are going to do a 3D printing project with our Year 7 and 8s where they are going to use solidworks to construct cases for USB pens that can be printed. YAY!!!!!!! But here is the issue, we are looking for a supplier of just the USB pen circuit board (with USB connector mounted) that they can make as part of their project. but we need to get around 350 of them to cover both years. I have been asked to see if anyone is willing to sponsor the project to help, or know any good cheap suppliers in the UK that are willing to sell just the circuit board and no custom casing? Maybe @ICTDirect_Dave or @VeryPC would be interested Look forward to hearing from y'all! Edited March 12, 2014 by BKGarry 1
PotNoodleTech Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 I would say it's unlikely that you will find anyone who can supply you with just the boards. Even if you do, I doubt you'd save much compared to just buying full usb sticks in bulk and just pulling off the plastic case. Good luck though - it sounds a fun project!
Steve21 Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 Honestly no idea on prices, but I know these do them when I was looking at some before. Promotional USB Flash Drives & Branded USB Memory Sticks (Ignore the wording on that link, it isn't cased ) Steve 2

They're really cheap. http://alibaba.com/products/usb_flash_drive_circuit_board.html No info on what size they are...
BKGarry Posted March 12, 2014 Author Posted March 12, 2014 Thanks @ X-13 Our finance department will not allow orders from alibaba sure to something that happened in the past, but I don't know what
Cache Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 We were looking at this a couple of years ago but didn't pursue it. Couple of things came out of the research: There is a company out there that offers them, but I can't remember the name and don't think I have it wrote down Manufacturers such as Integral were quite interested in the idea behind it when contacted through our supplier In the end we decided if we were going to do it, it was actually cheaper for us to buy USB drives in cases and strip the cases off them then it was to buy the uncased sticks themselves. Don't know whether that helps? 1
