abillybob Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 Hey Guys The Mrs wants to buy Windows 8.1 for her new computer and she's a student. She has got it all setup so that Microsoft know she's a student etc... and all is well although I would just like to confirm with you brainiacs whether or not the Windows 8.1 Pro Student can be done as a clean install or whether it's just an upgrade? Here is the link: Windows 8.1 Pro Student - Microsoft Store United Kingdom Online Store Any help would be most appreciated as she wants me to do this for her while she's working tonight *figures* Cheers
HaleStorm Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 Aslong as you have/create bootable media I think you can do a clean install, im sure it was an upgrade disk that I got when I did my laptop from 7 to 8.1 and it let me do an "advanced install" which takes you through the options of partitioning and formatting your drive
abillybob Posted March 7, 2014 Author Posted March 7, 2014 So just to confirm I can definitely get an ISO from this, boot from it and format her hard drive and give her a fresh Windows 8.1 Pro Student install?
HaleStorm Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 It depends on if you get physical media or not, more than likely you will get a download link and it will download an installer software package. I would definatly ring up and ask, you may get the disc in the post, or there may be an option to order it on disc rather than download it You should definatly get a serial key though, which you should be able to use when installing from most windows 8.1 discs.
abillybob Posted March 7, 2014 Author Posted March 7, 2014 It is definitely a download. I rang Microsoft and one person said you could do a fresh install and another said you can't. I was hoping it would give me the option of downloading an ISO does it not do that?
HaleStorm Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 Not that I remember...but if you can get an 8.1 pro ISO from somewhere else you should be able to activate it with the code you get when you buy from microsoft
