[Office 365] SSO Powershell Connect-MsolService Fails

Right, has anyone managed to find exactly the right components and orientation of stars and planets MS wants to actually use this. Tried following their instructions to install the Windows Azure Active Directory Module for Windows PowerShell and the desktop tools for the signon bit only to have it claim I had the wrong version, six reinstalls later with different versions scattered around MS I gave up and used a reg hack to fake the version number so the damn thing would install.

 

Now when trying t connect it gives me this lovely informtive error:

The internet is even less informative.

 

How much more of a pain could they make it, I long for a simple exchange/sharepoint/lync on premise server that you can at least log in to and seemingly takes less time to setup.

 

Anyone got any ideas on this?

I can connect just fine with Connect-MSolService -credential $cred

 

If it still fails with that, have you looked at "Connect-MsolService: Exception of type was thrown" error when you use the connect-MSOLService cmdlet to connect to Office 365, Windows Azure, or Windows Intune

Found it, I just had to use the older Beta tools

is the latest version, although it says BETA it is the production version that should be used.
