Trapper Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 I've just encrypted a 120GB SSD with Sophos Safeguard v5. it took 8 minutes. Average time on spinning rust is 2hrs. Wowser.
MordyT Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Several things to look at, such as is it doing full disk, or only the data on the disk currently? SSDs are quick, was the 2 hours a normal disk? Also, does the drive support hardware encryption?
ZeroHour Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Also, does the drive support hardware encryption? If its different processors the newer intels support certain types of encryption too boosting speeds.
Trapper Posted March 4, 2014 Author Posted March 4, 2014 Old i3s believe it or not, at least four years old. Cheapo SSDs as well - so looks like the drive is handling it phenomenally well.
Arthur Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Wowser. SSDs that support the eDrive standard can be encrypted with Bitlocker in a couple of seconds.
