Adding unique identifier to user accounts.

Hi.

 

We have been asked to apply the SIMS user ID to each of our pupil accounts. Can anyone think of a way that isn't just manually adding them one at a time?

Loads of bulkAD tools around - look up Wisesoft for various tools & spreadsheets for just this purpose.

We had to do this recently, but opted to do it the other way, uploading users emails into SIMs account using the bulk uploader tool.

 

However when we were looking at doing it, we were using a SIMs report to get Year/Name/ID, and then using a script to match Year to OU, name to name, and add ID into Description box etc.

I used a small powershell script which populates the employee id field in AD with the MIS student/employee ID. It's not quite that simple though, there may be records in AD that do not correspond to records in the MIS and vice versa. It also relies on having some common attribute (I used email) or being able to generate some common attribute from other information you have.
