I got a little hypnotised by last weeks: xkcd: Frequency

Just watching the birth/death flashes got me thinking to how many people are in hospitals or homes going through the most wonderful moment of their life*, or the last, and the feeling of being infinitessimally small washed over me, like staring at the stars too long and realising with a shudder that it isn't a 2D spattering of lights but a three dimensional array of unimaginably distant stars and worlds, too far away for me ever to visit or know, mysteries I cannot even guess at let alone comprehend, and how small I am in comparison to it all, and yet also how inarguably I am a part of it all, tied to everything, all my particles extant since the start of time and immutable, invincible, cycled through stars and lives and the infinite inky blackness of space for all eternity until the final victory of entropy when all that we ever were or will be will mingle in a soup of particles, recombined into one single whole again.

Which was pretty cool for a bunch of flashing gifs in a webcomic, I guess.

*I say this as the man who does none of the pushing, of course.
