Yes. :)

 

Btw, you'll need a PAYG Micro-SIM card, otherwise it won't fit in the Galaxy S3.

OK, Samsung phone and Orange PAYG SIM all done and dusted (forthcoming birthday present). Thanks for that.

 

Now that I've confessed my ignorance of SIM-related matters, here's a follow-up.

 

I bought the phone SIM at Carphone Warehouse, and decided to get my 1st generation iPad wireless at the same time. So they sold me some EE data micro-SIM for that. I was a bit surprised to find it was £15 for 2GB, requires £10 renewal every month, and doesn't even get reception back home in my neck of the woods. So is that normal, or a rip-off...? And if I wanted to use this with a laptop, can I pull it out and use it in some kind of bog-standard wireless dongle...? These seem to vary from £6 to £75 and I'm not sure why...

I am assuming that you cannot use your phone to provide wifi to your iPad by tethering.

 

I have an unlocked MiFi that I bought from Amazon like this . It can provide mobile wifi for up to 5 devices. I've had my house running off it when the landline connection was down!

 

I use it, in the UK, with a 3GB prepaid 3 Mobile data SIM that I also purchase from Amazon. I throw it away and buy another rather than top it up when the period expires as this works out cheaper than topping up the data; I have never succeeded in using up the 3GB of data!

 

On holiday overseas, I can stick a local prepaid SIM in it to provide data. Battery life is about 7 hours, so I can have it on in my pocket or handbag and my phone has data without bankrupting me :)

 

@robk has one of these and swears by it too :)

I have found prepaid data sims consistently cheaper online and the best deal so far has been 3 mobile
