Wireless SIP Phone

Hi,

 

I am looking for some wireless SIP IP phones. Our new building is rubbish for mobile signal and i keep missing my calls at the desk. Can anyone recommend any please? The Mobiles are not smart phones so no soft client on those.

 

Something that can jump between wireless AP's without many issues would be nice.

 

We are using Asterisk as our PBX.

We have a Mitel system and use the '5624', but I think these are just generic SIP phones that they have re-badged.

 

We have 10 of them with 7 being for our premises staff running across our Ruckus Wireless.

 

To get them to roam across the campus ( with seamless AP handover) we turned off background scanning and set the Phone SSID to route all traffic via the controller - this might be different dependant on what wireless system you use, ours wireless is a Ruckus one.

We have 3 UniData wieless SIP phones that we use with our IP PBX system, based on Asterisk. The phones themselves seem capable enough, but they're having some issue working correctly with the PBX - they keep on dropping off and on the network. I get the impression it's more of a PBX issue than the phone (we have the same issue with one fixed-line phone, for some reason, too), and our IQ PBX uses a version of Asterisk that's a few versions behind the current release, so these phones with a newer PBX should work fine. They certainly seem to be decent enough phones, they seem to pick up a wireless signal (from our Ruckus wireless system) well enough throughout the school.

We had a similar problem of the phones saying "no access" on the actual handset but after doing the following on the VOIP WLAN they work great.

 

Here is what we done after a conversation with Ruckus support, just for anyone else reading this

 

Setup a separate SSID with a VLAN

turn off load balancing

enable tunneling mode

turn off background scanning
