Hi All,

I am looking at trying to setup smoothwall express 3 and seem to be hitting a brick wall.

I have a machine with 2 interfaces GREEN + RED, but for some reason after install i get no connectivity on either interface i have prodded it and got the internal network with dhcp working so i can get into the web interface.

The other interface seems to be problematic in the fact that i have my normal cable router connected but cant get internet connection, this is purely until i have got it set up, then will put it in modem mode is this possible or not.

The other problem is it keeps offline my wireless even though it shouldn't as its not connected to affect the current network.

Is there a way i can set the smoothie just as a proxy but using the existing dhcp etc.

I kept running into this problem a number of years back, never did fix it, so I moved onto PFsense, as I don't think the smoothwall express project is still going.

The only thing I can remember is, set the router (RED) with a dhcp on it, then a different range on the Green for your pc's.

Most common error i have seen with people is trying to connect to it via the red interface - they connect the red interface to their home lan and it gets a 192.... address they then try to connect to this, you need to put a switch or a crossover cable on the green interface and connect to this.

Not in my case red is to the current router and green is to a MacBook which does get a dhcp address
