Apps on smartphone and tablets via proxy and authentication

I would like to hear from people who have apps working seamlessly through their proxy with authentication. At the moment I am finding that most apps do not pass authentication details and therefore fail. If you have it working, what are you using for your proxy?

We don't use proxy authentication with our devices - we use wifi authentication instead. So, people have to log in to a captive portal, and then they get online. The login is logged, with the IP and then in our proxy server the web activity is logged against IP. Not perfect, but it works.

 

This is with a Ruckus wireless system and a simple Squid proxy.

Currently we use a transparent proxy with our smoothwall set as the networks default gateway. Devices connecting this way are put on our most restrictive filtering settings. May change this when we start looking at 1:1 devices, BYOD and managed WiFi.

Oh yea this is a issue. You have to have a decent wireless system and proxy.

Do your devices have static IPs or is the web activity only really tracable until the end of the DHCP Lease? How long have you set your lease for?
