Quick question, what's the difference between setting the Profile path for users in AD and setting the AppData(roaming) option within the GPO?

The 2nd option only changes the path to one portion of the profile, if you don't set it in the profile path the user won't have a roaming profile.

i should point out the issue im having. On some student users when they log in, it says it can't load their profile. The error is: The system cannot find the file specified.

They have access to the share, same as other students and this only happens on some computers. This would lead me to suggest its an issue with the computer.

i seem to have narrowed it down to if a user doesnt have a profile, for some reason when logging on a few pc's it doesnt create the profile. If i logon to another computer it creates the profile. i'm then able to log in to the prior one.

Nathan,

If there isn't a profile it should create one from the default profile, I would therefore suggest that there may be a problem with the Default profile on the computers where you are seeing the issue.

I'm not sure what everyone elese thinks but I would much rather had a mandatory profile for the little cherubs than allowing individual roaming profiles. you may want to look into it.
