I need to make a number of garments in different sizes. 100 in size 10, 500 in size 12 and 400 in size 14. The total amount of fabric available is 2000 mts. How do I pro rata the number of garments of each size to be made, if the average amount of fabric required per garment is 1.5 mts?

Don't get lost in the numbers, look at what's important - how much material do you have for reference, how much do you have in reality. Find the difference between the two, apply it to your reference figures.

Thanks for your input. The amount of material is 2000 mts. That remains constant. What needs to change is the number of garments for each size when the amount of fabric required to manufacture each garment changes.

You have two different values for the average material used per garment. Also what do you mean by "pro rata the number of garments"? If each garment will require on average 2m of fabric (as first stated) then in my mind it is 2000m/2m = 1000 garments able to be made. You have an order for 1000 garments (the total of all the sizes) so you are OK. If each garment will require on average 1.5m of fabric (as stated at the end) then again in my mind it is 200m/1.5m = 1333.33 garments. So you will have fabric over, or better you have a margin for error and spoilage. Otherwise just cleanse it with fire. It's for the best

The question is, how would you spread the extra amount in the same proportion as the original amounts? "Pro Rata" ie 100 in size 10, 500 in size 12 and 400 in size 14. As regards to the fire, that is next week. (Very old joke)
