Alis_Klar Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 Hi, I need help with licensing: Scenario Hyper V 2012 R2 Host With 2x guests OS's Guest A Windows Server 2008 R2 (Sims Server) Guest B Windows Server 2012 R2 (DC, DHCP) What is the most efficient way to license this? Do you get any free guest instances with Win Srv 2012 R2 enterprise? Don't need any extra features just need to do this the most cheaply. Also if I am correct that you get 2 free guests how do you activate the downgraded 2008 instance? I believe with the 2012 guest it will activate automagically as a hyper-v guest.
clodhopper Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 Only two licences now for Server 2012, that's Standard & Enterprise. Difference is the number of guests for VM's, standard is 2 where as Enterprise is unlimited. So in this case Standard with the two guests would cover you. Well that's how I understand it :-) 1
Alis_Klar Posted January 8, 2014 Author Posted January 8, 2014 Thanks @clodhopper . Do you know how activation of 2008 guest works?
clodhopper Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 Think you use your Volume Licencing key if you have a EES / Campus agreement.
Alis_Klar Posted February 4, 2014 Author Posted February 4, 2014 We only have perpetual licenses at the mo!
clodhopper Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 Ah, in that case I'd say you'd need to talk to your software supplier as they should be able to help.
