Steam Hardware & Software Survey

 

Some interesting bits of data on this survey. Doesn't include Linux statistics though! Subject to change mind you since I have only just got the hardware survey box.

 

- Windows 7 64 is miles ahead of Windows 8 64. Meanwhile Windows XP is very slowly contracting and around the 6% mark.

- Most Mac gamers are on Macbook Pros.

- Somehow, Intel HD graphics controllers are the most popular! Presumably the sheer number of on-board graphics components on Intel boards.

- Somebody out there is running Steam on a 12-core system...

Surprised at the high percentage for systems with over 12gb of RAM and that's "down" from last year.

They've got it wrong, it isn't physical CPU, its cores. I think they're getting mixed up with threads. 12-cores is a bit nuts, 12 physical CPU would be insane!!

 

Bit weird about over 12GB ram systems being down :S

it's a monthly survey & optional. Perhaps people just didn't bother doing the survey again this month!

I'm surprised Windows 8/8.1 uptake is still so low a year after release. Especially as they're now had 15 months worth of new PC sales and the gamers on steam are far more likely to upgrade/update their PCs than the average punter.

 

I can see Windows 7 becoming another XP as people using it are obviously reluctant to upgrade to anything else!
