What am I missing?

I have a Sony STR-DE475 (12 years old? Has no HDMI input.) amp, a Samsung LE40M87BD TV, and have just bought an LG BP325 Blu Ray player. I've got the Blu Ray plugged in to the TV via HDMI, and then the TV plugged in to the amp via fibre optic. When I had a Sky HD box plugged in like this, the amp would decode the surround properly. It won't from the Blu Ray though. Unfortunately I've moved house so plugging the Sky back in to see if that still works isn't an option. What option am I missing, and where, as presumably there could be a setting in any of the three devices which needs changing?

Samsung TVs are known for not sending HMDI audio to the optical output if the original input has HDCP (which it will from the blu-ray). That said, the Sky box would have specified HDCP too so not sure why that worked and not the blu-ray.
