Shut Down Options

I have removed the logoff options from the start menu, Ctrl+Alt+Del menu, and shutdown list.

 

I now want to remove Restart and Stand by form the shutdown list so only leaving the option to shut down.

You can remove standby by disabling power management. I don't believe you can remove Restart.

This is purley for the Administration network.

 

At present we donot want to use a forced shutdown of workstations.

 

Teachers are saying its not there jobs to shutdown the PCs at the end of the day.

 

We do our curicculum PCs using LanSchool before we finish, but teachers stay on site longer.

 

As the teachers are already in a habit of loging off, i just wanted to force change the option to shutdown only.

my rule is, at end of the day if you are using the machine in last lesson, shut it down, and the projectors. just remote loggoed on to my machine to see who has left there machines on. 10 are still on and 3 teachers are still logged on. school is closed now. well will have to teach them a lesson. start deleting work... this little piggy went tothe market, and this little piggy... lol

Took me half a day to "recover it from backups".

They're still quite bad at leaving it logged in or switched on, but they have got a bit better. I think it might be LART time!

I've made a msi that shuts down the computer. It runs as a scheduled task at 6pm but it won't run until the computer has been idle for 15 mintues. It then gives a further 15 minutes of warning before forcing a shut down, so the comptuter would have been idle for half an hour. if someone leaves it that long, they deserve to loose their work!

 

Let me know if that's any use and I'll post it.

I'm stealing that idea. We have about 3 constants, and I think a nice round of "you left your system on and a cleaning script happened which is why we ask things to be shut down on weekends... I'll have to restore your documents and it may take a bit" should wake the lazy tarts up.

We have a dozen or so who always leave themselves logged in with open files. It drives me mad. I just force a shutdown on them :twisted:

Just to add in with the "force shutdown":

 

We use iTALC and I just upgraded my phone to a Treo (WM5 PPC). Using WM6's Terminal Services Client (which is available as a separate install), I connect to my laptop at work when the mood strikes in a post-work hour and launch the iTALC master application on my laptop via RDP. Cycle through the classrooms and see who's left their system on, make a note, then force shutdown of all systems.

 

Freaks the kids the hell out when they realize I can monitor their PCs from my cell phone... they think it's the coolest thing in the world but also realize they really can't screw around anymore.
