El Reg have a good article here on why shooting down drones would be a pipe dream (along with the drones themselves) On the matter of shooting down Amazon delivery drones with shotguns

 

You'd have better luck trying to disable it through electronic means by confusing the guidance system, using jamming devices or crippling the hardware inside. That is if you can get hold of the kit with sufficient range to do so in the first place!

Surely the obvious move is to shoot the drones down from other drones. Or perhaps Net them.

Why would people shoot the drones? No one shoots courier vans? :confused:

 

The sort of force you would need to use to disable and steal from a courier van far exceeds the force needed to bring down a small drone. The van driver would undoubtedly notice and call the police sharpish. So unless you have a thief willing to also murder the van driver and any other witnesses, the chances of getting caught are pretty high.

 

Taking potshots at a small drone as it flies over your garden is a lot less conspicuous, low-risk, and within the realm of the thief-not-murderer type criminal.

I wonder what the minimum perimeter clearance is for this? This guy obviously has a massive field outside his house, so there's room galore, but what about people that might have, for example, no garden and just a driveway?

Theoretically drones can get very accurate with their location with the amount of data that's fed to them nowadays (GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, barometers, gyroscopes etc). I believe even the DJI Phantom series can get to around 2.5 meters of location accuracy.

 

It also looks like the Amazon drone looks for the Amazon pad to land on? So even more accurate I would guess.

Looks like the current deliveries are running only to people who live close enough to the base so that the drones don't have to fly over any roads, house - or basically people.

which is a sensible starting point

 

but still loads of potential legal and 'what-if' stuff that needs to be sorted out, checked etc.

 

i think I read somewhere that in the event of total engine failure they have a parachute to ensure they land softly and reduce the risk of injury
