VPN & Domain Login

I have been able to setup a Vista laptop to join the domain and be able to connect to a VPN. When the computer is turned on, the logon screen allows you to logon as a local user, a domain user, or logon to VPN.

 

The VPN login however, only loads a default Windows profile, and not the domain profile. Is there any way that it would be possible for it to also load the domain profile?

 

Or have a machine startup script where if it detects it is not on the school network (maybe try to ping the DC), it automatically connects to VPN using a basic account?

 

Any thoughts? I've googled it, but have not found the solution for what I need, only on how to get the basic VPN setup.

Thanks. I tried turning off the slow link detection as the article suggested, but it still did not work

 

It looks like Vista is simply skipping the domain login process entireley, and instead making the VPN users local admins (when they should be restricted users), and using the local machine's default profile rather than the domain's.

That was the only Vista machine we had.

I ended up just reinstalling Windows XP this past weekend. It now works perfectly.
