We have a Ubuntu based webserver and I was wondering if there was any way to set a cron job that publishes an htm file from our SIMS server to a web directory?

 

I'm sure this is possible but then again I'm in a weird mood this morning, so what I'm suggesting could be crazy.

This canned answer is pretty close, but transfers the wrong way. It should give you a good handle on the problem though.

As an aside, I use Ubuntu as well, and use the .gvfs filesystem for my rsync, but that's in interactive, graphical mode, which probably isn't much use on your server. It's handy to know, though.

Just share an appropriate folder (probably a sub-folder of /var/www) as a Samba share, then mount that share from the SIMS server and have Windows copy the file straight over. You should be able to do Samba file sharing from the GUI in Ubuntu, there shouldn't be any need to go tinkering around with smb.conf. If you wanted, you could make the Ubuntu machine a domain member so you could assign whatever file permissions you wanted to any shares.
