Show number of new items - exchange 2010

I am wanting to show how many new items a staff member has in their inbox on a local intranet page so they dont have to have their mailbox as their home page.

 

Ive been searching all over google but havent found what im looking for. I have seen webparts for exchange but the information shown for the webpart is too much, i only want to display, you have x amount of new items in your mailbox.

 

Hope someone can help.

EWS or powershell but going to take time to get it the way you want. Why can't users check their own email anyway.

Its just an idea ive got. Thinking about having a so called landing page like an intranet type thing and it would display how manh new items the member of staff has.
