Kids moving from touch screen to physical keys?

I was speaking to the head at one of the primaries today, and she told me something i found totally bizarre. They had iPads in Reception year 2 years ago, and they kids love them. Now those kids are in Year 2 they no longer have iPads and have netbooks instead, they absolutely hate them because they have physical keys and are scared to death of them and its becoming an issue.

 

Anybody else come across this? Suppose we have always seen computers as having physical keys, but these are of the age when touch screen is a computer, and this thing with a keyboard is a big scary monster.

I can kinda sympathise with people disliking netbooks because I've never seen a netbook that I'd consider pleasant to use, but I find the idea that they're "scared" of them to be somewhere between absurd and possibly a scathing indictment of the person responsible for teaching them to use the netbooks...

Show them how to move the keys around so that they spell rude words. That will take the fear away.

Some of the kids here have pressed the monitors before, thinking they were touch screen, they didn't notice the keyboard in front of them!

Since getting my tablet, I have lost track of the number of times I have touched a laptop screen, or my Kindle screen and wondered why nothing happens. I thought it was age, like walking out of the house looking for my phone, and tell the person on the phone I cannot find my phone.
