Hi there I am looking for a little personal guidance on where to go next with my career. Hopefully it will not sound like a CV but will give you guys an idea of where I am at and maybe where I need to aim next?

I have been working in school ICT support for almost 10 years (only primary).

I currently work for a large school in London and get paid moderately well.

My current network has around 200 systems (I am lucky it is such a small number), we use RM CC4, Vanilla Server 2008 with Windows 7 and OSX. We have managed switches configured by me and managed wireless.

I am the technical manager which means I am responsible for the ICT budget and consumables budget, technical aspects as well as staff training. Over the past few years, we have been improving on our ICT and I have been responsible for some very large purchases including tender bids.

I am looking to start some sort of training as I have not undertaken any formal qualifications since finishing university.

Here is what I already have:

1st Class Honours in Computer Science

Cisco CCNA (but it expired last year)

RM CC4 Technical Training Certificate

Thinking forward, I would like to either work at a larger school in the same capacity such as a secondary (although by the sounds of it, they pay exactly the same, for more work), or alternatively, either work for a borough as a schools ICT manager or if all else fails, work in the private sector again.

I thought that a Microsoft qualification of some sort would be useful, but not too sure what to go for.

Or a qualification from this organisation

Any advice, experiences or suggestions you could give would be greatly appreciated! :)

lol. I had not realised but apparently RM do training for PRINCE

I will have to look it up but they do PRINCE2 and ITIL.

Would be slightly easier to use them as we already have an account and I have been to their Oxford centre before.

They offer this training, but it isn't delivered by them or held at their training centre. I did both in London with QA.

Thanks for your posts, you are right, found out this morning QA deliver the courses.

I have had a look at a few job specs or profiles for people already in employment and ITIL and PRINCE do seem to appear frequently along with some who have Microsoft Qualifications. MS do so many it is hard to know which one to go for!
