I need to look into some backup software for our 5 servers and I'm unsure as to where I should be looking.

I have spoken to a few people who have recommended Symantec Backup Exec, what are your thoughts on that? Do you need a license per server? Or per client install?

Le Edit:

Also can anything out there offer Bare Metal Recovery? We don't have SCCM so DPM is out.

You dont need SCCM to install SCDPM - they're two different systems.

We dont have SCCM but we do have 2 DPM servers, one backs up the servers and the other backs up the first DPM. I've tried bare metal recovery of both a Virtual Hyper-V server and a physical server and both worked.

OK DPM looks good. A few questions.. Is it the normal Server & Client system? Does DPM have to be installed on one server? Or each file server? And what does it back up to? We need it to back up to a NAS on the other side of school.

I can advise you to use Acronis backup software which is good at server backups. The price starts with $500 per year for a small server. Plus you have a cloud storage and the ability to restore the data to any hardware.
