Open Docs in browser?

Hi!

 

First and foremost this is an excellent application you have here Nickbro, thank you for sharing. I came across and installed Home Access + 9.6 without issues and is apparently working fine. My only question is if open in browser or native application is supported? I get cut, copy, delete, etc. but no open in top menu or right-click for office/pdf file types. I do see preview as well but having the ability to open directly in native app would be nice without having to download first

 

So far I'm only using "My Files" to mount %homedir and other file shares on login.

It's by design, it stops users from Opening the files, they need to download the files (and there are more alerts telling them to save the file if they want to edit them). I've made HTML viewers for PDF/TXT/DOCX/XLS/Picture documents which is what the Open option does.

Hi Nick. I was just looking for an option in HAP+ to view/open PDF files in browser without downloading them. You said that you've made a file viewer but I can't see "Open option" or am I missing something? My HAP+ version 9.6.929.1500.

You'll need to download them, PDF's are an odd file format as you cannot guarantee that the user has the browser plugin

Future versions of Chrome will default to opening PDFs in the browser.

Firefox also comes with a built-in PDF viewer (PDF.js).

Thanks Guys. I don't think I explained it too well. I need users to view the files but not download them (it's one of those "data protection" things). So, I noticed that if I restrict the user to "read only", the only thing they see is "Download" option but if they "right click" and "preview" on "Word" document it opens in a nice looking window and that exactly what I am looking for. But is there a way of removing "Download" option for particular group of users?

@happierlarry yes there is a way but it involves going into the code

 

go to line 550

 

add

 

if (download && curpath.match(/%somepath%/gi)) download = false;

 

Replace %somepath% with the drive path to the folder (look at after the hash tag in the address bar (#))

That worked but I think I'll have to think of some other way as they can still download the document with "right" click or "double" click.
