Would any of the hardware makers suppliers Stone, Very PC or RM consider building 19in open compute style servers? I don't like Penguin computing design as it is too far a away form the Facebook design. I wish I could source some thing as raw as the Facebook design.

You mean if we were buying a server, would we buy an Open Compute server? I get the impression Open Compute is optomised for the kind of people who will be buying a whole rack of servers at a time, for an individual server I would probably go for a self-built server.

The main problem you will find (I imagine) is that servers of this type are designed for almost sterile enviroments and in the average school server room there would be too much dust to make these a viable option.

Aren't they meant for dust free/anti static environments like data centres or such like? They'd never last in a school unless you have the type of area that has dust filters and can be run in the way they're meant too.
