My 3 AP's have arrived and was just wondering if anyone is running the controller from amazon?

I have a 2008 R2 server that I could install it on at a push.

Matt,

We run several sites on our Ubuntu server at Amazon AWS but only those we manage ourselves on behalf of our clients.

There are several walkthrough guides on the UBNT community forum follow the one that suits you.

It costs me about 50p a month to run...

The windows version will run on any old workstation and only needs to be running to setup the UAPs or if you want to use the extra features such as guest control etc.

I strongly advise that you set them up the first time using a local windows box until you are completely comfortable with the operation.

You can switch it all to AWS later if you need to.

Not quite sure, but started here with http://aws.amazon.com/free/ with the free micro instance running the Unifi controller and a year later I'm getting monthly bills between 45-65p

We only use it to manage the smaller sites eg. Those with 3 APs or less where it's not practical to maintain a local server.

Eg. On board a Sunseeker floating in Monte Carlo...
