Moodle and emailing self-enrollment

I've got two different servers running identical Moodle versions 2.4.6. One allows email self-authentication and one doesn't.

 

The SMTP settings on both are identical, and point to an external mail server hosted by 1&1. The Moodle settings on both are identical.

 

Can anyone suggest why this might not be working please.

Are you certain that both servers can 'see' the SMPT server? If you can attempt pinging the server from each server.
