Easy mail, got to love it, because we have got to use it. :(

So the problem I had the other day was that we had allocated more than our 100mb extra storage space to our users. It threw a wobbly then refused to add more users. This Despite the fact that several of our users are 3 - 4 times over their limit.

So to increase the space would cost £115 per year for an additional 500mb storage.

Thats not per user, that my friends is the whole storage increase spread over all users! Now in the days of free email, with storage in excess of 2 - 3 gigs per account this seems just a tad unfair.

Google is providing 100 free email accounts to our school website, all with 2 gigs of storage space and with the advantage that it has 99.9% uptime, and its quick! And we can have more if we want, we just have to ask.

But we cannot change over, because "its what everyone uses, we might miss some emails" :(

If only we could afford to go over to exchange.

Exchange here.

RM actually have a good system for moving from easymail - and all your old mail is accesible for a month as well. details are on their website.

But you still pay them for the SMTP feed.... :(

Can I ask whether your students actually need 100MB+ storage? What are they keeping in their email which can't be downloaded to their MyDocs folders, or even deleted altogether?

Email here appears to just be used as an IM client, but that's another story!

Mdaemon here for 500 users, cost use about £600 per year for the server and anti-virus but thats just the renewal fee was a lot more to buy in first place. Had it nearly 4 years no problems at all with it.

One of the things pupils need email for is transferring work to and from home easily. I regularly have pupils emailing 30+Mb powerpoint's to themselves...

I'm all for that use, our girls do similar - but... it doesn't need to be kept in their inboxes, so 100MB would suffice.

Hi Chris,

Easymail can't stand it... I perfer exchange as it's easy to use and OWA is ok. Biggest issue for the teachers was the addressbook in owa, solved with a 3rd party add in. Maybe exchange is a bit of an over kill for wyke regis juniors, i'm sure there is some lovely open source systems out there.

So how is the lovely town?
