Alternative to Telnet to check connectivity to a specific website port?

Probably not explaining myself very well..

So, some software the school has purchased (before asking us to test, sigh..) doesn't work. We're working with the company to find out why it doesn't work.

TL;DR is that it uses the Adobe Connect plugin to connect to 'meetings' hosted on their domain. Machines can connect fine to Adobe Connect meetings hosted on Adobe's website (one of our departments have some online training coming up that's at aqa.adobeconnect.com and that works fine..) but not their rooms.

Mr. Phone Man asks me to Telnet to them to check connectivity to the port. I insist TCP 1935 (which is used by Adobe Connect) must be open as other meetings work. Theoretically could only be open to adobeconnect.com, though, so worth the check. Problem is, Telnet's disabled, given it's a potential security hole.

I try navigating to their page appending :1935 and get a zero-sized reply, but that's generated by the LEA proxy, so no real information about if I'm getting to their servers or not.

Any other way I can test this that people know of?

Danke.

Port 1935 is closed on IP.

Hmm.. So why does it work when connecting to aqa.adobeconnect? Maybe it is an allowance per address?

No response from CAPITA about it yet..
