New Backup 2 Disk solution

Im looking at replacing our old backup server which is a 7 year old HP storage works, 12tb NAS with a new solution. The server currently does DPM backups for home dirs and Veeam for VM backups.

 

Can anyone recomend a solution without breaking the bank? I was just thinking of replacing with the HP storeeasy 1430 12tb NAS which is about 4k but this only has 4 3tb disks

Build your own and install FreeNAS or similar. If a 1U 4-disk case is going to be too small go for the next step up and get a 2U 12-disk case - fill that with 4TB drives in RAID 6 and you have 40TB of storage. Cost would be around £3,000 for the case, motherboard, RAM, power supply, disks and possibly a hardware RAID card. We found the cheapest way to get 4TB drives is to buy the external USB version (at £30 less than the plain internal version) and simply prise the box open and remove the internal drive.

In the past we have come up a lot against HP and Dell solutions and more often that not the customer has gone with the Overland Storage offering. No worries if not, the offer is there if you would like it though
