Meraki MDM android wifi profile

Hello all,

I’ve been using Meraki for IOS profiles and it is successfully pushing out wifi profiles to the ipads.

I have a set of Galaxy tab 2’s and the meraki app says they received the profile, but I am still prompted for credentials when I attempt to connect.

 

The ssid is secured with wpa2 enterprise the profile is set to use Peap the same as the ipads.

I updated the device to the latest software android 4.2.2.

 

Anyone else using meraki to manage android wifi settings or have another solution?

What Wireless are you using?

Cisco 1142’s on a 5508 controller and they authenticate against Cisco ACS join to AD.

I’d like to rule out the wireless its self as an issue because the same profile works for ipads and I can connect my android phone to the wireless just fine as well. I have a similar profile in the GAFE console for the chromebooks that works too.

 

One thing I have noticed is meraki doesn’t ask what phase 2 / inner protocol should be.

 

The device acts like it doesn’t know about the profile and prompts for all the needed information to connect.

Hello again all,

So I put this issue aside for a while and just connected the androids to guest last year. I started searching for an answer again this summer and came across this post.

I’ve finally got it working now. The ipad profile had my domain in the trust cert section. Once I removed this for the android profile it worked.

One would think that the Meraki folks could have pointed this out when I opened a case with them last fall, but it is working now.

Could you expand upon that a bit, please. I've just encountered the same problem here. Meraki works fine for our staff iPads, but doesn't add the necessary settings to Android devices.

 

At first I thought it was because the SSID seems to be case sensitive, but I'm still having problems even having corrected that.

This is the section I refer to that I had to remove my domain name from. See attached.

 

However since I posted this it has gone out again. Some androids have the profile working and others don't. I've not been bothered to mess with it too much because these devices are mostly assigned to a single student. I have them just use their own credentials.

 

Sorry I can't be of more help. Although we are talking of getting androids for the primary grades next year, so will be revisiting this then. Does the google play for education provide wifi configuration similar to the chromebooks?

Thanks. We're using WPA2 not WPA2 Enterprise, so those settings aren't applicable to our wireless.

Having spoken to Meraki, they are saying auto-join and proxy details are only supported via Meraki on Android 4.2+. I'm not convinced, however, as one of my test devices is 4.2, and that auto-joins but doesn't include proxy details. What versions of Android are you folks running, and can you therefore confirm/dispute Meraki's suggestion...

The official word from Meraki is they don't support applying proxy settings to Android devices. Which is a PITA, to say the least....
