Apple Maps strike again, police kick in wrong door...

Looks like the NZ police being given iPhilth to do their jobs better may - surprise, surprise - have been stupid. Looks like one persons house was surrounded twice and searched 'accidentilly' including door breaking because their GPS told them to. The house in question was on a whole different street but after three goes it appears the cops don't even bother to check the letterbox let alone the street name when kicking in doors.

 

Thanks Apple, you have done the impossible, made our police even more inept and needlessly aggressive.

Either way, not sure which is worse. Inept GPS/mapping software of inept police officers unable to realise they were on the wrong street/at the wrong address

It says they won't confirm if it was a faulty gps but even if it was they shouldn't be relying on that surely?

That was just what the people said but the police here have a nice way of doing what they want and getting away with it. @Garacesh is right, it does not say iPhone/pas but the NZ police have just been outfitted with them (Apple Signs $159 Million Gov't Contract for iPhone, iPad) to handle record lookup, reporting and navigation so unless all the cops brought in different gps units from home for the three incidents I'm pointing at the iPad. Still even if they had accidentally shot and killed someone (Courier killed during Auckland shootout | Stuff.co.nz) or driven into a motorcyclist (http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/3599140/Police-U-turn-death-spurs-review-call ) the best the wronged party would get would be a strained apology after a lengthy coroners inquest, I doubt they will be admitting anything any time soon.
