Hi Can someone give me some clues on how to edit the iptables in smoothwall to block certain mac addresses.

i know this can be done by command but ideally want to find the actual file? its firewall.up on the opensource but cannot find in school guardian

Please be advised that any changes to backend files will invalidate your warranty and are not considered 'update safe' and may be overwritten by updates. Rather than attempt to action something that is not a functionality in the web UI, it would be easier to do the following:

Reserve IP addresses for those MAC addresses on your DHCP server then use the Smoothwall UI to block the IP addresses - this can be done using the web filter or the IP block feature which is under the Networking > Filtering menu.

not only is that method time consuming does not stop them from manually changing the ip with a static we also run a 24hr ip release so would not help. mac address filtering altho can be spoofed ( we are using ipads) so not an issue at present with spoofing.

smoothwall should impliment a mac filter its a simple iptables to drop the packets. surely they can implement along side the ip block
