PaperCut Client login

Hi all,

 

We are currently starting to evaluate PaperCut NG with an SQL 2012 backend.

 

I have managed to import all 19 odd thousand student numbers into the user database, which is nice, and have the release station asking only for card number.

 

The problem I am having is that how do you get the computer client to work with card number and not with username and password? All the students log into centre computers with a shared login, consequently when you print it logs it against username not card number

 

We use moodle login numbers from an sql database rather than AD, hence the constant head scratching!

 

Any help would be appreciated,

Hi,

 

PaperCut is using the owner of the print job that the OS sets. The owner in most cases is nearly always going to be the logged in users Username.

If you have shared details then you will need to either:

1. set the print queue to unauthenticated and run the client software. This will mean when a user prints they are asked for a username/password.

2. do the above but start using Internal Users. Create the internal users with the card number as the username.

 

I expect managing 19,000 users like that would be tricky and a lot of work on the papercut admins part.

Ah, so they cannot authenticate with just the number in the client then?

 

Might have to look into creating an openldap server syncronised with the sql database.
