MattDLEA Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 Sorry if this is a stupid question, But our rack is getting full and we need a new switch, we currently have procurve 3 * 1800 24 G Now I need something with POE so i could get a HP 1910 24-G POE and fit it in or I could take opne out and replace it with something like ZyXEL GS1910-48HP POE. Which would give more ports and be a better fit. Is there anything wrong with mixing switched in the rack or should i keep all the the same make ? Thanks
synaesthesia Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 We've been mixing from day one with no real problems - the only issues we have are the mixtures in terminology used. I certainly wouldn't want to manage a mix of procurve 1800's with anything else if your using vlans though, you'll want to commit seppuku! If you're of a stronger mind though then it shouldn't be an issue. Might be different if you're making proper use of the likes of rstp.
MattDLEA Posted September 10, 2013 Author Posted September 10, 2013 As far as im aware none of the switches we have in are managed properly or have any vlans set up
nicklec Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 we use PoE midspans and 'normal' switches, the midspans are fully managed so you can cycle things remotely which is probably a more pricey feature on a switch (guessing).
