Assistant IT Manager for a Family of Independent Schools in London

Thomas’s London Day Schools are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, self-motivated IT professional to join our growing IT support team. This is a unique opportunity for a candidate with excellent network management experience and interpersonal skills.

 

The Assistant IT Manager will be a key member of the team, responsible for maintaining the IT systems across eight sites, and working alongside four IT Support Specialists, the IT Administrator and the Senior IT Manager.

 

Under the direction of the Senior IT Manager, the successful candidate will maintain, support and upgrade the schools’ core infrastructures. They will also assist in managing the support team to enable them to carry out tasks effectively and efficiently.

 

Technical Skills and Knowledge

 

Essential:

o Windows Server (2003 to 2008R2)

o Active Directory and GPO design & management

o Virtualisation, especially VMware

o Understanding and basic use of UNIX/Linux, especially in server environments

o Mail server configuration & troubleshooting, ideally MDaemon eMail Server & MS Exchange

o VoIP, especially 3CX

o LANs, WANs, TCP/IP, Routing, VPNs, Firewalls

o Network hardware & VLANs

o Wireless network management and security

o Windows XP, 7 & 8

o Mobile device configuration & management

o Good Hardware and software troubleshooting skills

o 1st and 2nd Line support experience

 

Desirable:

o Office 365

o Any coding experience, e.g. C++, Java, Python, html, etc

 

 

Thomas's London Day Schools is a group of leading preparatory schools in London. The schools are self-supporting, independent day schools for girls and boys, offering education to 1,950 pupils between the ages of two and a half and thirteen within central London.

I already meet a lot of your school everyday - we're the playground/PE area for one of the sites!!!

 

It'd be interesting to catch up sometime about what you do ICT wise, and if there's any possibility of some shared projects (a few that spring to mind at the moment, are we might be able to boost our wireless to cover you, using our repro facilities? - Or just a general chat about the difference between school ICT and University ICT!
