abillybob Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 Good Morning Bit stuck as I need staff with laptops to be able to save things on their own Home Drives and a staff shared area even when not connected to the internet. I want it so synchronise then when they come back on the network. Has anybody got a clue on how to do this on group policy? I've looked on various tutorials and it hasn't worked so if anybody has any others or has their own way I would really appreciate the help Thankyouu
sted Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 you need to set the shares to enable caching and under computer config admin templates\network\offline files i tend to set subfolders always avaliable offline enabled allow or disallow use of offline files feature enabled prevent use of offline files folder dissabled remove make avaliable offline command disabled a lot of the other setting are for xp and do squat there are also similar settings for users i also set some as i have the opposite set on other users/pcs in higher ous so i make sure to overwrite the settings.
abillybob Posted August 19, 2013 Author Posted August 19, 2013 Ok thankyou for all the info. I know this might sound noobish... But is there any chance you can let me know how to set shares to enable caching on Windows Server 2008R2? Thankyou

For windows 7/ 2008r2 you must install the "enterprise hotfix rollup" KB 2775511 on your dc's fileserver and clients. Also install the re-released kb 2732673 which prevents the data loss bug regression. Otherwise you will experience a lot of pain. Edited August 19, 2013 by psydii

I've been using offline files for laptop staff for a year now and haven't noticed any unusual problems.
psydii Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 Windows 7 sp1 has problems caused by multiple bugs in the networking, redirector stack and the offline cache service. For a summary look at what is fixed by the enterprise rollup.
abillybob Posted August 19, 2013 Author Posted August 19, 2013 OK Has worked and hasn't at the same time. The Home Folders will now sync without a problem though Staff can't seem to access Staff Share and Pupil share as it says Due to restrictions on this computer blah blah..... I'm a little confused if I'm honest as on some computers the pupil share and staff shre will be there and on others they won't even show up??? PLEASE HELP!!!
