Slow multicasting

We are trying to image 30 computers at a time. This worked successfully 2 summers ago. We have a cisco network and nothing has changed regarding it. What has changed is we have switched from MDT to SCCM 2012. The MDT server was avirtual machine (Hyper-V) running on Server 2008. That Server 2008 box has been redone (using same hardware) and is now Server 2012. MDT is gone and replaced by SCCM 2012. Imaging single computers works fine. However, 30 at once took 6 hours. Obviously, this is not acceptable, especially since we have over 800 computers to image. Something is wrong! I confirmed all Cisco/multicast settings, but as earlier mentioned, nothing has changed. Should I consider Unicast? If so, how do I do that? Also, are there ant Virtual network consideration on the Hyper-V box I should address? Thanks in advance!

Its taking us 9 hours http://www.edugeek.net/forums/windows-7/120316-multicast-woes.html . I feel for you. Is your host for hyper V 2008/2008 R2/2012 ? Did you configure a custom network profile on server 2008 wds, this can help but alas is no longer supported in 2008 R2 and 2012. There are a fair few switch configurations you need to get right. IGMP v3 snooping and querying etc but it sounds like you've done that.

on the physical 2012 host check the network adapter properties and make sure vm network queuing (or something similar cant remember exact name) is disabled it really kills vm networking speed

are all the devices the same? we tried to image a set of laptops before and the one that was a different model caused this problem for us, we ended up either starting them individually so they did not all wait for eachother to catch up or doing them in batches of the same hardware. A major pain! (as always with ms)

we have done the exact same thing over this summer but have seem some better speeds. We had terrible speed issues at first, along with errors when more than 5 were started. In the end, we stream the package to the clients and not multicast.

 

Our servers is 2008 r2 vm and our image is just unde 20gb. I can deploy to a room of 30 machines in less than 1 hour.

By stream do you mean unicast?

AHHH! the patch panel to the uplink 1 Gb port was not patched correctly. We were only getting 100Mbs!!!
