Proxy Settings in Group Policy

Hi there,

 

We are in the process of upgrading our domain from Windows Server 2003 to Windows server 2008r2 and all our workstations from Windows XP to Windows 7. So far this process has been fairly straight forward with most problems easily enough ironed out.

 

We have come across something regarding setting proxy settings in GPMC for the domain. For some reason 'Do not use proxy server for local(intranet) addresses' is turned on by default and will not turn off.

 

This means that all workstations have access to local address and as such would be able to access the landing pages for network printers and access points.

 

Is there a way to force all IE traffic through the proxy?

The setting is in Group Policy, under...

 

User Configuration -> Windows Settings -> Internet Explorer Maintenance -> Connection -> Proxy Settings

 

Not sure it's wise turning it off though, may cause more problems accessing local resources.

Not what you are after but I would not use the standard gp proxy settings in 2008r2 as they do not work for IE 10 clients.

Use GPMC from a client and use Group Policy Preferences to control IE Settings.

 

Make sure you've got An enterprise hotfix rollup is available for Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 installed on clients and servers though otherwise it may not work.
