Little-Miss Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 This happens quite frequently and the only way i can fix it is to re-image them. I try removing from the domain and joining again, forcing GP and plugging in via network cable as the issue seems to be that they wont connect back to their wireless. The Wireless is group has a certificate and they are members of a group called wireless. I've asked this before but have never gotten to the bottom of it (and cant find old post!!). Is something timing out? The netbooks are used daily so it's not like they are left for long periods of time before connecting to the network... Frustrated and can't think of any technical lingo lol!
seawolf Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 If this only happens with the netbooks on your network, then the problem is probably the netbooks themselves (hardware or network driver issues) or an incompatibility with your WiFi system and the wireless chips in the netbooks. Of course, I never did like the netbooks in an enterprise, managed environment so maybe I'm just being shortsighted about the cause...
sted Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 so they wont even reconnect to the network on wired? is suepect the certificate is out of date and isnr set to renew (or is entirely manual) so onec the certificate expiry date is passed it needs renewing
edutech4schools Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 I get this lots. In fact fixed one today. remove pc from network (make workgroup) delete pc from ad re-join domain. works. 2
Duke5A Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 I see this periodically with student wireless devices here too. Do you have your wireless policy setup to use both computer and user credentials for wireless authentication? If so, I do this: 1) Jack system in with a patch cord 2) Login as local admin 3) Verify wireless connected (it should be using user authentication at this point) 4) Unplug the patch cord 5) Drop it from the domain (don't reboot) 6) Join to domain again 7) Reboot I still don't what causes this to happen, but it's only once in a while for me.
plexer Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 Isn't this caused by the startup repair being run? Ben
witch Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 I get this lots. In fact fixed one today. remove pc from network (make workgroup) delete pc from ad re-join domain. works. I get this often - there were two on my desk when I got in this morning. I do the above. Def not startup repair and we have monitors to make sure netbooks are shut down properly - haven't got a clue as to why it happens here and at my other school. I suspect sometimes the wireless drops out when the netbooks are nearly flat and this upsets them. Sometimes I just log on as admin on a wire, remove from domain (ours are "school.local" so I remove the local bit). Don't restart. Put it back. That works.
seawolf Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 Yep, I knew there was a reason I disliked netbooks...
julyan1 Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 This is an old thread but because we have had this issue on our network and we believe we have found the reason, I thought I would share and get other opinions. What we have found is that students (and staff) are impatient. They shutdown and close the laptop/netbook and hand it in before the device has finished shutting completely down. We have told the schools to make sure that the devices are fully off but they never do so if this happens now, we just get them to pull the battery out of the device and try again. Works everytime.
