I'd been having GP problems and it turned out that the C:/ drive on one of my DCs had zero bytes available. OK, I bunged it a few GB in ESXi just to keep the service running, but it ran out of space again a few days later. There's a file called wod.log taking up 36.5GB.

Anyone know what it is? It isn't present on the other DC.

The permissions give nothing away, and of course it's too large to open with any editors I might have on me.

That log file is produced from WMI. Did you run BootVis on the machine? If so you need to run it again and disable tracing.

Ah. I was assuming that Symantec were to blame, for no reason other than that's often the case here. I haven't run BootVis, but it's useful to know it's WMI using all the space. Edited by birchanger

The bootvis thing is the only situation I have come across that causes that log file to go massive. But yes, it's WMI not Symantec.

The log is produced by FreeFTPd, which seems to be running as a service so that it can accept backups from our Cisco Call Manager. I've no idea why it's tracing every packet, or how I stop it, but at least I now know who to blame and what service to stop when I want to free up space. I deleted the file an hour ago, and it's already up to over 100MB.

Did you ever find a solution to this problem? The exact same thing has just started happening to my server and I cannot seem to find an answer anywhere. It would be a massive help if you know any further details regarding this.

I am also using FreeFTPd so I also believe that this is causing the problem.

Thanks very much,

Scott

I'm running FreeFTPd as a service, and that file is filling my hard drive too. I finally resorted to adding a scheduled task that deletes it every hour. That works, but it would be much better to find out how to properly turn it off. No info on FreeFTPd site on it that I can find.

hi, i found elegant solution - i just create that file (c:\wod.log) and disable write access to all users in security section of file properties, and its works ;)
