Dos_Box Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 Now, can someone correct and/or help me out here. On the office PC I have an Asus P6T motherboard which has the Intel ICH10R chipset. I was always under the impression that this was a SATA 3 chipset, yet when I benchmark a new(ish) Kingston HyperX SATA 3 drive it never tops 300MBps. Either I have got it wrong and the chipset is SATA 2, or something is wrong somewhere else. Any help?
Dos_Box Posted July 18, 2013 Author Posted July 18, 2013 Hmm. According to this: P6T - Motherboards - ASUS I'm on SATA 2 Anyone recommend a reasonably priced SATA 3 card then?
sonofsanta Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 This has worked for us in the past: http://www.amazon.co.uk/ASUS-U3S6-USB-SATA-PCIe/dp/B002VVQ58M (other vendors are available) 1
VeryPC_Tom_M Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 You might want to take a look at this: PCIe SATA 3.0 Controller Card - 6gbps | 2 port | StarTech.com United Kingdom FYI, it's cheaper on Amazon, than direct from Startech 1
Dos_Box Posted July 18, 2013 Author Posted July 18, 2013 You might want to take a look at this: PCIe SATA 3.0 Controller Card - 6gbps | 2 port | StarTech.com United Kingdom FYI, it's cheaper on Amazon, than direct from Startech I had been looking at that one, however the Asus card with USB 3.0 as well looks like the winner as it will kill 2 birds with one stone i.e. I need a USB 3.0 card as well but only have one PCIe x1 slot
VeryPC_Tom_M Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 (edited) Do you have another other slots free? PCI USB 3 card: http://www.amazon.co.uk/StarTech-com-Dual-Port-Controller-Power/dp/B00ARJN5G0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1374147174&sr=8-1&keywords=PCIUSB3S22 Edited July 18, 2013 by VeryPC_Tom_M 1
Dos_Box Posted July 18, 2013 Author Posted July 18, 2013 Thanks Tom. That is very helpful, I wasn't aware that they did USB 3.0 PCI cards
